Artist Statement
Through paintings, ceramics and sculptures I use the human form to pull the viewer into my work. I work large so that the pieces I make are as unavoidable as the topics I discuss. With a larger than life scale, I make the viewer treat my work like it is another person in the room. I investigate discrimination and intimacy from the perspective of a queer person. I explore historic ways gay people were harmed; including themes like castration, conversion therapy, and trans prosecution. I use the human figure and put them in spaces to force the viewer to feel the scale of what I cover. I use my art as a form of self expression, education on queer history and advocacy for LGBT rights.
Every time I hear about a trans person being killed I am once again dedicated to using my art to advocate and educate. Combining my personal experiences with these tragedies is what allows me to have a voice that is unique to me and relatable to the public.
